A New Playground - Help Us Make It a Reality

The PTO, as well as many others, have been working to build a new playground and outdoor learning space at the school for the last six years. We have reached our initial fundraising goal for the first phase of our project. Overall goals:

Replace the old equipment in the 1st - 6th grade playground area with newer, safer, more exciting and weather resistant equipment.
Build an outdoor classroom or learning space that can be utilized for teaching.
Build a walking path.
Build spaces that bring in the community.

Schematic for our overall plan can be found here, although please note the lower field walking path plan has been tabled due to drainage issues on the lower CWE field.

Playground Update
Update November 2nd
Playground Equipment Update: To mitigate any possible injury to kids who fly off of the Spinami (when hanging from it inappropriately), which is the large spinner with the net at the West end of the playground, we will be having rubber bumpers placed over the concrete on 11/14. This is at no additional cost to the PTO or school.
On 11/14 the Spinami area will be closed while the rubber tiles are applied to the concrete barrier. Cones will be up for a couple hours which allow enough time for the tiles to adhere properly.
Art Tiles. The art tiles purchased and made last school year (you can see pics on our FB site!) will be installed later this year. We are working with the school district to figure out how best to mount them to an exterior wall on the school. As we updated earlier, we could not go forward with the plan to place the tiles on top of the concrete benches we poured due to last minute safety concerns from the District.
Blacktop stencils. This project is tabled for now.
Walking path. For the walking path, the committee is working on a grant application that should raise enough money to install the planned walking path and complete the learning garden that is to surround the outdoor learning space. We will apply for matching grants from the school district in the 2011-2012 school year. We plan to have enough to install a new walking path on the upper field in the summer of 2012.
